Obituary for Virginia Lee Tronstad

Virginia Tronstad, 84 of Rice Lake, WI passed away on June 28, 2022 after a long battle with cancer. Virginia was born July 29, 1937 in Rice Lake, WI, the daughter of Adolph and Violette (Houlder) Buergi. She married Ludvig H. Tronstad of Long Lake, WI on November 10, 1956 in Rice Lake, WI.

Virginia graduated from Rice Lake High School in 1955 and attended the School of Nursing at Swedish Hospital in Minneapolis, MN. She was employed at Lakeview Medical Center for 32 years. She served as secretary and/or treasurer with the Barron County Fair Association for 42 years. She also served on the Wisconsin Association of Fairs board. She worked with the Cub Scouts and was a 4-H project leader. She was a longtime member of the Federated Women’s Club and Women of the Moose. She loved her flower garden, house plants, and quilting. She enjoyed camping and fishing with her family as well as international travel.

Virginia is survived by her beloved husband, Ludvig; three children, Steven (Patrice) Tronstad of Onalaska, WI, Susan (Barry) Meyer of Chippewa Falls, WI, and Janet (Gordon) Pionkowski of Marshall, WI; five grandchildren, Dustin Meyer of Spearfish, SD, Lindsey (Josh) Morrissey of Sparta, WI, Whitlee (Aaron) Nicholson of Eau Claire, WI, and Edward and Russell Pionkowski of Marshall, WI; two great-grandchildren, Ada Morrissey of Sparta WI and Bentley Nicholson of Eau Claire, WI; two sisters, Marlene Winters of Nekoosa, WI and Karen Moore of Elgin, IL, and many nieces and nephews. Virginia was preceded in death by her parents, Adolph and Violette Buergi, and two brothers and their wives, Robert (Joanne) Buergi and Carl (Judy) Buergi.

A heartfelt thank you is extended to Jennifer and Christine from Rice Lake Hospice for their support and compassion. The family expresses their appreciation for all the staff who provided care.

A funeral service will be held at Bethany Lutheran Church in Rice Lake at 11am on July 9, 2022. Visitation from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m. with luncheon to follow. In lieu of flowers, the family is requesting any memorials to be given to Rice Lake Hospice.

Burial will be at a later date at the Long Lake Lutheran Cemetery.
