Shirley A. Matson, age 89 of Chetek, passed away at her home on Monday, October 10, 2022.  She was born on May 15, 1933 in Sampson Township, Chippewa County, WI to Loddy and Stella Cizek.

Shirley graduated from Chetek High School and later met the love of her life Harold “Chuck” Matson and were married on December 29, 1950.  Together they worked the family farm and Shirley had several other jobs while raising their four children.

Though she was an extremely hard worker, Shirley also found time to have fun.  Much time was spent at their cabin on Eau Claire Lakes.

Recreational hobbies included snowmobiling, bowling leagues, golf and travel.  Trips out west were among her favorites.  In her later years, she looked forward to time with her grandchildren, coffee clutch ladies and an occasional trip to the casino.  An avid sports fan, Shirley cheered year-round for the Badgers, Brewers and Green Bay Packers.

Her religious faith was demonstrated by her involvement in the Chetek Lutheran Church being active in many of the church’s activities.

She is survived by her two daughters: Peggy (Donny) Smith of Eau Claire and LuAnn (Pete) Madland of Chetek; grandchildren: Trevor Matson, Jared (Teresa) Matson, Nolan (Erika) Matson, Kasey Wampole, Dawn (Marco) Bertranou, Jenny (Nate) Crawford, Molly Madland and Emily Madland; great-grandchildren: Brohde, Milayna, Avery, Beckett, Kennedy, Jack Will, Cate, Andrew, Nico, Eloise, Olive, Enzo and Dylan; sister-in-law Carolyn Cizek; and many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

Preceding her in death are her parents; husband Chuck; sons: Danny and Tommy; and brothers: Leonard Cizek and Carl Cizek.

A celebration of life will be held at 5:30 p.m. on Friday, October 21, 2022 at the Chetek Lutheran Church with Pastor Guy Redfield officiating.  Visitation will be at the church from 3:00 p.m. until time of service.
